I believe a huge problem aiding the apathy of those who claim to be followers of the Hebrew God and his ways in America is the fact that the Federal Government has got itself so highly involved in philanthropic works. They look and see the Government doing it so they don't even bat an eye because they believe that those needs are already being taken care of, so why should they?

Another problem is people are scared of getting dirty - getting involved in other people's lives. They, them selves, might be changed.

But at the root of it all is the Hellenistic Church which teaches self-first.

You are feeling the Heart of God on this matter, Brother. Continue to be a voice for the least of these and keep your eyes on the goal. May we not be one of those who say "Lord, Lord" in the end, only to be told to leave His side because he doesn't know us.

I share your frustrations and probably multiplied to the nth degree. Although we finance missions outreaches in foreign countries, the problem remains the same ... it is missions (domestic or international) who suffer when the economy becomes strained. We've noticed a tremendous decrease in committed giving, in spontaneous charitable giving, and even in people wanting to get involved. The problem is that many are still trying to maintain their lavish lifestyles (I use the word "lavish" because even the poorest in the US lives lavishly compared to those we work with overseas) when the economy takes a nosedive. Instead of cutting back on their spending, they continue spending and cut back on their giving. Who suffers? Those we are trying to help.

There are a few, though, who take their giving very seriously and remain committed, so I am reluctant to lump everyone into the same category. There are committed Christians who take their giving to missions very seriously and sacrifice in order to do so. While I agree with your frustrations, let's be careful not to lump every Christian in to the same category and remember that it is God alone who is our Supplier. He has all the finances necessary to do the work we are called to do, to equip our ministries here and abroad. The ultimate burden is on the Lord to provide and for us to remain willing and able to allocate the funding He brings in to the specific areas He has directed us to finance.

I'm learning (the hard way) that even work in missions isn't about me or what I think needs to happen. It's about God equipping me to do the work He has called me to do. If His "equipping" is delayed according to what I think it should be, it's time for me to seek His face and determine whether or not I am doing my part, listen for His clear and concise leading, and be open to make changes in my own life to accommodate His leading.

I love your passion for charitable giving and making a difference in the name Yeshua ... it could be, however, that God has a bigger plan that we're not seeing when the finances don't come in. Remember, He doesn't call those who know how to get money out of people ... He calls those who will obey His voice and follow His lead to accomplish His will.

God bless you in your endeavor to reach out and be the ambassador of the Kingdom of God to those who are hurting and who need a touch from the Lord.
